UK Dairy Expo - March 2 & 3 Borderway Mart, Carlisle
We are pleased to say that there are entries in the British Friesian classes, but the closing date is now passed. The BFBC has taken stand space at this event and we look forward to seeing you there. For further information, check out the Harrison & Hetherington website which describes the event as follows:
‘This prestigious new event is being organised by Harrison & Hetherington, and is aimed at both commercial and pedigree breeders. With international judges, a prize fund of £15,000, and entries coming in from all parts of the UK and Europe, the event is already set to become one of the key events of the Dairy farming Calendar.
The UK Dairy Expo follows H&H's hugely successful Borderway Agri Expo, which is now in its fifth year and attracts over 10,000 visitors. In addition to the judging, youth competitions, and top quality livestock on sale, there will be in the region of 150 Trade Stands, with Commercial and Educational Exhibits, Machinery Show & Demonstrations, the latest in Dairy Technologies and Industry Seminars.’
Herd Competition – July / August
As this is a bi-annual event, it will be taking place during this summer. The competition was very well supported two years ago. The Stockdale's have agreed to judge. Details later.
Herd Visits – 4 & 5 July
The first day will take us to the Lismulligan herd at Leven, and on the second day we will be visiting the Dechmont herd, near Livingston. The 16thC Macdonald Houston Hotel in Livingston has been recommended for the night of the 4 July, and we have asked them to reserve a number of rooms. The well reviewed restaurant is large enough for us all to dine together. We would like a very early indication of numbers as the Hotel are currently prepared to hold a block of rooms, so please could you telephone Mary on 01761 462709 or, preferably, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. If we have sufficient numbers there will be a discount on the price but, because it is high season, we need to get on with it. We will then communicate directly with those who are interested.
The summary for the 2011 results will be discussed by the Committee and another workshop with all the classifiers will be held this summer. Date to be advised. If you have any comments, please contact Jackie Griffin. We are pleased to report the number of heifers classified was up by 130.
HUK AGM & Celebration 17-19 September at the Belfry, Wishaw
Hosted by the Staffordshire Club. We are absolutely delighted that a herd visit on the 17th has been arranged to the Deangate herd. There is a very full and interesting programme over two days, culminating in the AGM and a celebratory dinner at the Belfry, Wishaw, Sutton Coldfield.
