NEW ZEALAND 'FRIESIANS' - WHAT ARE THEY? Much confusion still exists as to the above description of some black and white cows. Whereas in the past, Dutch or British Friesian were used as a cross with Jerseys, for some years now it has been Holstein. Therefore it is unlikely that New Zealand “ Friesian” would qualify for registration in the HUK herd book as a British Friesian. It is in fact a 'misnomer'.
